Welcome New Board Members

NKATs would like to welcome our new board members.  We appreciate their time in volunteering on the board.  Please take a moment to read about them.  We are always searching for volunteers, whether it is on our board, through committees, at meets, or behind the scenes.  If you are interested in sharing your talents with the NKAT community, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Erin Sneller - President

My name is Erin Sneller and I’m excited to be joining the North Kent Aquatic Team’s board as the incoming president.  I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Agriculture and Natural Resources Communications and minors in Public Relations and Connected Learning. My career focus has been in non-profit administration. Early in my career I worked in communications for Hope Network Rehabilitation Services and in fundraising for Wedgwood Christian Services.

While homeschooling my sons, I continued my passion for non-profits as the director of Coffee Break, and later a leader in Community Bible Study. I now split my time between supervising my sons’, Liam and Henry, virtual school through Northview, being an active high school swim and dive parent and non-stop driving of a swim-and-dive taxi. I have seen what a profound impact NKAT has made in my son’s life, both in and out of the pool, and look forward to being a part of this team as we continue the excellent NKAT program and develop growth opportunities that bring world class swimming instruction and training to the North Kent community.

Marie Sinclair - Vice President

My name is Marie Sinclair, and I am excited to introduce myself as the incoming vice president for NKAT.  My day job is a systems engineer at GE Aerospace.  Over the years as an engineer, I’ve had the opportunity to develop my “fix it with what you have available” skills, which should come in handy at all the swim meets!  I’m also a local. I grew up in Grand Rapids and after graduating from Grand Rapids Public Schools I earned my degree in electrical engineering at Grand Valley State University.

My kiddo made the NKAT Cubs I team after six months of hard work.  He has said since he was little that he wanted to be on the swim team.  We heard about NKAT from our neighbors, and he didn’t make it on his first try.  After 6 months of talking me into every swim lesson in the city, he made the team last spring!  I’m excited to be part of something he is so excited about and such a great program for our community.

Kristin Taylor - Treasurer

My name is Kristin Taylor, and I am excited to introduce myself as the incoming treasurer for North Kent Aquatic Team. As an office manager at a dental office in Ada, I have gained experience in financial management and bookkeeping, and I am excited to bring my expertise to the team. I am also a proud parent, as my daughter has been swimming for the program for the past few years.

My family and I have been living in Northview for over 12 years, and we feel very connected to this community. As passionate soccer enthusiasts, my husband and I manage the Northview Youth Soccer Association at Northview Schools. I love getting to know new people and building relationships, and I believe that being a part of a team like this is one of the best ways to do that.

I am excited to be a part of this team and look forward to contributing to the continued success of the organization. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as the treasurer.

Laura Barnes - Secretary

Hello, my name is Laura Barnes. By day I am a corporate administrator for Studio C and the Chief of Staff’s assistant. I wear many hats and have the very best job in all of the land.

I am a huge sports fan. My sister and I coached little league for years. Then she decided to move to Florida, so my coaching days ended. I would have continued but my daughter could care less about baseball/softball. As a huge baseball fan this bothered me at first. As a Parent there is absolutely nothing better to watch than your child doing something they love! As for my daughter that happens to be swim. She has been a part of the NKAT team for one year now. This has been the absolute greatest transition for her.

I would be so happy to be a part of this organization not only to help keep it going for my daughter, but so many other swimmers. I believe youth sports are so important for the community and for young people. It really helps kids grow into their own being a part of this NKAT team. I have seen my daughter grow confidence, be a “cheerleader” for her other swimmers, become stronger in her body and mind, plus taking “orders” from other people other than her Dad and I is very beneficial. I believe all kids need this, and if I can help keep this alive in any way, I would be honored to do so.
